Ready to play Butterfly for real?
Spin Fan is the software company king of purist slots filled with multipliers that will make your eyes pop. Don’t believe us? Give Butterfly a try and see for yourself…
Although it is just like every other Spin Fan game, with only the theme being slightly different, that combination of painted and photorealistic bugs just pulls us in and before we know it we’re spinning away, eyes fixated on that final jackpot, which tops at a whopping x100 your bet.
If you want to see what every side of the slot machine community has to offer, then you really need to try every type of slot out there imaginable, only then will you know what titles are best suited to you, your budget, and your personality. Slot Machines are a lot more complex than they’re given credit for.
This is one of the brand’s more attractive mosaic grids, mainly due to the subject matter and how it’s been translated to us; it just reeks of cutesy, childlike charm, reminding you something your own kids might draw up for you and so it whittles away that scepticism.
As we’re in the land of the bugs, every tile relates to this type of habitat: there are flowers, grasshoppers, ladybirds, ants and many other cute but crawly critters that we just want to take home and name Rory and make them the family pet. What? They really are adorable looking, regardless of the crude design work applied here.
In the background you see a photograph of a butterfly so intricate in its detail that it looks like it’s from a natural geographic website rather than belonging to a casino game. However, while maybe looking out of place, it actually connects to how the feature games are activated, and so it plays a larger role than first thought.
For the bonus feature (if we can call it that) to begin, you need to have all the squares upon your reels making up one whole picture, and that particular image is that of a black and orange butterfly, the one lurking behind the matrix. Should that happen, and it seems to happen often to us, a random multiplier and a number of spins will be added to your game and start playing. As you activate each of these spins the counter added to the left hand side of your screen will begin to count down until it reaches zero, and then you will return back to the base game.
Although you have two games inside of one, if it wasn’t for the big picture being used nobody would know when a bonus round had launched, which is definitely a design flaw we have to flag up before we go further. While it cuts out unnecessary fuss and standing on ceremony, it also means you have no idea of what’s going on unless you go out of your way to read up on the game whilst playing it, which isn’t what casual gaming is all about.
Due to the various number 40s surrounding the matrix, we’re guessing this is a 40 paylines game, which is incredibly impressive for a total of 3 reels if that is the case. As such you’d think the title would be quite volatile, but actually we found it pretty harmless. In fact it didn’t feel like we were gambling with anything at all, which is odd as we were playing with real cash.
Take the starting bet as a prime example of this: it starts at 64 coins valued at 0.01 each, which means your first bet is still quite low, even despite the number of active paylines; 25.60 to be exact. Granted when you increase your total to 320 your stake becomes a lot more intense, but the gameplay still doesn’t promote a sense of risk.
There are no options available now other than the autospin, which most of you will grasp even if you’ve never even seen one before – it does the work so you don’t have it. Players don’t have to do a thing other than select it; it requires you to do nothing.
Would you believe that that is the extent of the controls here? Well I’m afraid it is, so now it’s all down to you and whether you want to take this game on. It is fun, even though we’ve given a mixed review, but we just couldn’t overlook those niggling issues because they hindered the experience for us.
Spin Fan have made an okay slot machine, but it will never be a popular title among the community, we know that given how long it took us to even find the game in the first place!
