Bet on MLS online in NJ

MLS features 29 teams in two conferences. Each club plays 34 games throughout the regular season, which includes one home and one away game against each team in its conference. The remaining unbalanced schedule is made up of games against squads from the opposing conference. The top seven MLS teams in each conference qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs and are put in seeded brackets. The top seed in each conference gets a first-round bye.

The playoffs are a single-elimination tournament with each game hosted by the higher seed. If there's a tie, two straight 15-minute extra time periods act as a tie-breaker. If there's still a tie, a penalty kick shootout is held.

The Red Bulls have won three Supporters’ Shield titles for having the best regular-season MLS record in 2013, 2015 and 2018. The team has made the MLS Cup Playoffs every year since 2009. However, the Red Bulls have not advanced past the semifinals during this time.

3 greatest moments in MLS, Red Bulls and NYCFC history

1. Donovan scores, LA wins

Landon Donovan is arguably the greatest US men’s soccer player of all time. That fact extends to the more than 200 games he played for the USMNT and 250 for the MLS’ LA Galaxy.

In 2011, the LA Galaxy won the MLS Supporter’s Shield and Donovan helped lead the team to the 2011 MLS Cup final, where he scored the game’s only goal to clinch the win for the Galaxy over the Houston Dynamo. It was Donovan’s fourth MLS Cup title, but no moment was bigger for him or Major League Soccer. Donavan was named the MLS Cup MVP.

He also scored on a penalty to help the LA Galaxy to back-to-back MLS Cups in 2012, but he was out of the league within a couple of seasons. Donovan did come out of retirement to help an injury-laden LA Galaxy squad in 2016.

2. NY Red Bulls sign Henry

The greatest day in New York Red Bulls history may be the July 2010 day when the club signed French international soccer star Thierry Henry.

He’d played for FC Barcelona, Arsenal, Juventus FC and AS Monaco. He’d won the World Cup, European Championship and the UEFA Champions League. Suddenly, Henry was coming to the US, New York and MLS. He may have passed his prime at 32 but Henry was still primed to be the greatest draw in the league, and he spent a few years as the league’s top-paid player.

Henry helped the Red Bulls top the Eastern Conference standings in his first year. Although they lost to the San Jose Earthquakes in the quarterfinals of the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Red Bulls made it to the conference semifinals and lost in 2011 and 2012.

The team won the 2013 Supporters’ Shield but lost in the quarterfinals of the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs. The 2014 team made it to the conference semifinals again and lost. Henry announced his retirement in December 2014.

3. NYCFC’s Villa wins MLS MVP

Signing arguably the best Spanish striker of all time, David Villa, before his inaugural season gave New York City FC instant credibility. In his second season with the team, Villa turned NYCFC into a contender.

In December 2016, Villa was named Landon Donovan 2016 MLS MVP. He scored 23 goals, collected four assists and finished second in the MLS Golden Boot standings that season. Perhaps even more importantly, he led NYCFC to its MLS Cup Playoffs berth. The team also made the playoffs for the next two years behind Villa’s stellar striking.

Bet on English Premier League in NJ

Twenty teams compete in the EPL, which includes the top 17 teams from the previous season standings and three teams promoted from the English Football League Championship division. Each team plays the others twice. Therefore, a full season consists of 38 league matches.

The teams that finish in the bottom three spots in the standings are relegated to the English Football League Championship. Premier League clubs also play in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup tournaments. The FA Cup includes teams from the top 10 divisions of English football. The Carabao Cup is a tournament for teams from England's top four divisions only.

The top four teams in the Premier League standings qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The FA Cup winners, Carabao Cup winners and the Premier League's fifth-place team qualify for the Europa League. More information on the Premier League is here.

How to read soccer betting odds & lines

Pro leagues around the globe play the game with 11 players on each side, including a goalie. The games are usually 90 minutes in length, with two 45-minute halves. Other than during halftime, the clock does not stop. Instead, match officials add up any time spent dealing with injuries or other stoppages in play and add this time to the end of the 90 minutes.

Futures markets at most NJ online and mobile sportsbooks may include various international competitions like the World Cup and major soccer league championships like the MLS or English Premier League. Single-game wagering is available for most games in these competitions and leagues as well.

These bets typically involve basic moneyline, spread and totals markets. Soccer betting features three-way wagering, which means you can bet on either side to win, or the game to end in a draw. Other particulars in the game open up further betting options. These include:

  • Double Chance Bets: Bets covering two of the three possible outcomes in a soccer match, including the home team win and draw, or the away team win and draw.
  • Cards Bets: Over/under bets based on the number of red and yellow cards in a game.
  • Corners Bets: Over/under bets based on the corner count for each side or total for the game.

Live, in-play betting is also available for select soccer matches. This allows you to bet on basic soccer lines during a game at odds that change with the action.

FanDuel Sportsbook at The Meadowlands is a great place to watch and bet on international soccer matches. Furthermore, FanDuel hosts an online sportsbook and betting app that you can download onto any smartphone or tablet.

The app features the same soccer lines you’ll find at the land-based sportsbook at The Meadowlands. It offers convenient and quick access to live, in-play soccer markets.

You can use the FanDuel Sportsbook app inside the FanDuel retail sportsbook at The Meadowlands or anywhere else you are inside the state of New Jersey.

Why pick legal soccer betting apps?

Hardcore gamblers and longtime soccer fans may be used to betting on offshore (i.e., European-based) betting apps. These offshore books may even provide more soccer betting options than NJ online and mobile sportsbooks. But there are advantages to betting in a legal and regulated environment that only NJ online sportsbooks can provide.

legal betting njRegulation itself is No. 1 on that list. Using a licensed NJ sports betting app means you’re betting in a safe, legal, and state-regulated environment. You can bet with confidence knowing if something goes wrong, you have somewhere to turn.

That’s not the case at many offshore and illegal operators. Your money is safe and secure when you bet with legal and regulated NJ sportsbooks. You’re taking an unnecessary risk when you bet with an illegal offshore operator.

Banking methods also aren’t the same and there isn’t a governing body to assist you if something goes funny with your money.
