Chiefs vs. Chargers betting overview
The Chiefs used to own the Chargers. They won nine consecutive meetings between 2014 and 2018, the longest period of dominance in the rivalry. However, the Chargers have won the last two.
The Chiefs enter the game leading the ultra-packed AFC West with a 9-4 record. Kansas City enjoyed its best game of the season in Week 14, pounding the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9.
The win was vintage Kansas City. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes to eight different receivers. Kansas City’s defense forced five turnovers.
Kansas City also became the FanDuel favorite to win the AFC championship, vaulting to +260. The Chargers are at +950.
The 8-5 Chargers come off an equally-explosive game.
They beat the New York Giants 37-21.
Quarterback Justin Herbert was in fine form, connecting on 23 of 31 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
But there is a concern for them that NFL bettors must weigh. Star running back Austin Ekeler aggravated a previous ankle injury during the win against the Giants and left the game with his team safely ahead.

Kansas City is in the first playoff pack.

The Chargers are in the second pack. They are tied with the Baltimore Ravens at 8-5 for the fourth and fifth playoff positions. If Baltimore wins the AFC North, they would clinch the fourth spot. Behind them are several teams with six losses.
That group includes the Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills at 7-6, who own the final two playoff berths.
The Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos also are 7-6. Out of the money but in the hunt.
That makes every win vital to multiple teams.
These are interesting side angles concerning Thursday’s game for fans and the overall gambling public.
