As New Jersey is arguably the most mature online gambling market in the United States, it’s the perfect place to debut a new game. That’s exactly the approach DraftKings Casino has taken with its proprietary Spanish 21 casino game.
The gambling company has wasted no time in getting its exclusive blackjack variant to market in NJ. For online table game players in the state, it presents an opportunity to play a beloved game in a new way.

Details on DraftKings’ new Spanish 21 casino game
For a limited time, New Jersey will be the only place to access the new title on DraftKings’ casino app. DraftKings does plan to make the game available to players in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia eventually, though.
For those unfamiliar with the game, the rules are very similar to standard Blackjack. The object of the game is still to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. The opponent is still the house, as opposed to other players.
True to tradition, the dealer must hit on 16 and stand on 17. The variance begins with the dealer hitting Blackjack, though. If a player gets a natural total of 21 on the first two cards, that player wins regardless. The game also offers more ways to play.
For instance, players can double down on any number of cards in Spanish 21. Players also have the option to surrender on the original bet after doubling down or splitting aces. Thus, it’s possible to draw unlimited subsequent cards.
DraftKings developed this game for its casino platform in-house, adding to its menu of exclusive titles. It joins a number of other themed Blackjack games and variants on the site, including Football Blackjack and Single-Hand Blackjack.
For NJ online casino players, this is another example of the almost endless variety of game options. It also reasserts the primary status that companies like DraftKings reserve for players in the state. They do that for good reason.
New Jersey is the market leader for online casino play
Even approaching its fourth year of legal online gambling, interested parties are still eager to double down on the market. In fact, Carousel Group CEO Daniel Graetzer recently spoke about why the state is still so attractive to companies exclusively with PlayNJ.
“New Jersey is the birthplace of online casino and online sports betting and it has proven to be a fantastic market,” Graetzer stated. “We feel there is still plenty of room for a differentiated product and that is what we are building for New Jersey and the US market in general. New Jersey has always been right at the top of our list…”
It’s not difficult to see why. In February of this year, the seven online casino license holders in NJ combined to post more than $90 million in revenue for the fifth consecutive month. Also in that month, each licensee saw year-over-year growth in revenues of at least 41%.
That kind of return makes the investment of creating new games worth the expense for companies like DraftKings. Hopefully, Spanish 21 casino game players in NJ will also see a return on their investments.
