Online poker in New Jersey hasn’t seen this much activity since, well, forever.
The Borgata Hotel Atlantic City canceled its popular Spring Poker Open and moved it online to the partypoker NJ platform. It becomes the third major tournament series for the Garden State this month.
The series began on April 5 with tournaments scheduled through April 12, Easter Sunday. The online tournament series offers 17 events with over $400,000 in guarantees.
Partypoker NJ has been absent from the NJ online poker tournament scene since 2018 when it last ran its Garden State Super Series.
Undoubtedly, the success of the WSOP.com Online Super Circuit series and the lure of the virtual felt to poker players staying home, prompted the company to get in the game.
With the Borgata Spring Poker Open canceled, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to fill a void.
Borgata Spring Poker Open online tournament highlights
Unsurprising, the majority of events are No-Limit Hold’em, but the Open offers something for everyone.
Buy-ins range from $5 to $1,060 and include a variety of formats in addition to NLHE, including:
- PLO 6-max
- Seven-card stud
- PLO8
Event #1 will likely generate the biggest player pool of the series. The $215 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed tournament has eight starting days with Day Two of the series taking place at 8 p.m. EST on April 12.
Additionally, the series offers two bounty tournaments. Both tournaments take place today.
Event #4, the $20 NLHE Red Chip Bounty begins at 6:30 p.m. EST and comes with a $2,000 guarantee. Event #5, the $320 NLHE Black Chip Bounty begins at 7:30 p.m. EST and offers a $15,000 guarantee.
The series ends on Easter Sunday with two main events, including a high-roller.
Both main events begin at 5 p.m. EST. Event #15, the $55 buy-in Main Event Low comes with a $20,000 guarantee. And Event #16, the $400 buy-in Main Event High has a $100,000 guarantee.
The first cards of the $1060 buy-in High Roller will be dealt at 6:30 p.m. EST. It promises a prize pool of at least $75,000 and will likely attract all the top NJ online players.
